I guess Ibanez had a pretty good idea what Sherrill would be throwing since he played outfield behind Sherrill at Seattle.

Congrats to the Phillies!  I didn't pick them but they should provide a good matchup against the Yankee$, who I expect to clinch the AL title tomorrow.  Once the AL title has been won, I'll start a W.S. prediction thread.

Congrats JR!  Hope you Phillies win it again.  I really can't emphasize that last point enough, David

Yeah, they looked pretty good this series.    I'm a bit concerned over Hamels' troubles but the bullpen has been better than expected coming into the post-season - so I guess that balances out

I'm going to root for the Angels and Yankees to go the full seven...and really extend their pitching staffs

Wondering if Charlie Manuel will ask Cliff Lee (who I assume will be the game 1 starter) to go on 3 days rest in game 4 to set up a possible return on 3 days rest in a game 7.

Should be a good series no matter who the opponent though...

I'm counting on the Yanks closing it out tonight.  AJ has been very good, even with all the BBs.  Yankees and Phils are both playing excellent ball right now in all facets.  The Yankees have a clear edge at closer, but everything else seems pretty close.  It should be a good one.

The big advantage for the Phils is that other than the two lefty starters (Pettitte and Sabathia), the only other lefty on the Yankees pitching staff in the post-season is Phil Coke.

That bodes well for the Phils with switch-hitters Rollins and Victorino and lefties Utley, Howard and Ibanez.

Frankly, the only Yankee bullpen weapon that scares me is Mariano.

You're forgetting Marte, who I expect will be on the WS roster just because of Utley, Howard, and Ibanez.

And if you're not at least a little afraid of Phil Hughes, you haven't been paying attention.

Kind of hilarious to think that the reigning World Series champions, with the seventh highest Opening Day payroll in baseball, are the underdogs here.

Then again, maybe they'll be playing the Angels   One fourth of the teams in ALCS history that have been down 3-1 have come back to win it.

Possible, but not likely - 3/4 of the time, the team up 3-1 wins.

Damaso Marte...you mean the guy that had a 9+ ERA during the season?    Yeah, bring him on

Hughes had a 9 ERA in the ALDS against the lowly Twinkies.    He don't scare me none

You can’t help but admire how those scrappy, overachieving Yankees keep on overcoming insurmountable odds. How can anyone not root for these lovable underdogs?

Hughes is scary alright.    If I was Girardi, I'd be scared to put him in the game against the Philly hitters

Hughes had squat in the way of command tonight.  He had zero command of his fastball...he actually had command of his slider, but no movement at all.  The only pitch he had tonight with movement was his curve, which, to my shock, he eschewed to Guerrero.

Tonight's game was a lot of fun to listen to...I had the Angels feed on the MLB Audio.  I for sure thought it was over in the top of the seventh...I kept thinking Rivera was going to come out in the 8th so the Yankees had to do was muster up 3 outs.  And Girardi doesn't use the bullpen enough after it was clear that Hughes just didn't have it...I am starting to wonder if bullpen management is now in his head...hope so!
